Self-employed Key Workers
As a third-country national, you have the opportunity to apply for a Red-White-Red Card for self-employed key workers if your self-employment in Austria provides an economic benefit that goes beyond the operational advantage.
This is particularly the case if:
- Your activity results in a sustainable transfer of investment capital of at least €100,000 to Austria, or
- You create new jobs or secure existing ones through your activity, or
- Your establishment involves the transfer of know-how or the introduction of new technologies, or
- Your business is of essential importance to an entire region.
There is no points system for self-employed key workers.
Required Documents:
- Valid travel document (e.g., passport)
- Passport-sized photo (not older than 6 months, size: 45x35mm)
- Proof of health insurance that covers all risks (compulsory insurance or equivalent policy)
- Recent criminal record certificate
Additional Proofs of Economic Benefit:
- Market, competition, and location analysis: Description and objectives of your business activity (business plan)
- Proof of transfer of investment capital or intended job creation/security
- Proof of qualifications required for the activity
- If applicable: Articles of association
- If available: Permits for operating a business
